The double‑girder overhead bridge crane remains a cornerstone of heavy manufacturing and assembly lines. Its two parallel main girders, supported by end trucks running on runway rails, provide exceptional bending stiffness—enabling safe handling of loads up to several hundred tonnes. The bridge spans wide workshop bays, and the trolley traverses along the girders, while the hoist block moves vertically via a wire‑rope or chain mechanism. Precision is enhanced by frequency‑controlled drives that allow smooth acceleration and deceleration, minimising load swing. An active anti‑sway algorithm uses a pendulum model to compute compensating speed changes, so operators can position heavy moulds or machinery components within ±2 mm accuracy. The hoist incorporates dual braking systems—a primary electromagnetic brake and a secondary mechanical safety brake—ensuring failsafe load holding even during power interruptions.
Operator cabins are ergonomically designed with joystick controls and a clear view of the hook path. For harsh environments, the crane can be equipped with heat‑resistant insulation and dust‑proof enclosures. Maintenance is simplified through removable access panels and colour‑coded wiring for electrical fault tracing. The crane also supports variable lifting speeds, allowing delicate loads to be inched slowly while standard loads move at maximum velocity. With a service life exceeding 20 years under regular use, this crane type offers a reliable return on investment. Its modular girder sections enable on‑site assembly and future span extensions.
