Handling incandescent coke pots at temperatures exceeding 1,000°C demands equipment that withstands extreme radiant heat and mechanical shock. The intelligent coke‑pot trolley crane meets these requirements with a reinforced steel structure coated with multi‑layer ceramic fibre insulation. The main hoist uses a heat‑resistant alloy chain, while all hydraulic and electrical lines are routed through water‑cooled conduits. An onboard infrared thermal camera continuously scans the pot’s outer shell; if any hot spot indicates refractory thinning, the crane automatically reduces traversing speed to minimise vibration and alerts the control room.
Positioning is achieved via a combination of laser rangefinders and inductive proximity sensors embedded in the floor, guiding the trolley to within ±5 mm of the designated quench car or cooling bay. The crane’s programmable logic controller executes a predefined sequence: pick‑up, lift, traverse, lower, and tilt—if the pot must be emptied. Tilt angle is regulated by a closed‑loop electro‑hydraulic system that ensures a smooth, spatter‑free pour. For emergency stops, a gravity‑activated brake engages instantly, locking the hoist drum.
Remote operation from a climate‑controlled cabin removes the operator from hazardous heat and fume exposure. A wireless data link transmits real‑time pot weight, temperature, and cycle count to the plant’s central monitoring system. The crane also incorporates a self‑cleaning mechanism for its vision sensors—compressed air jets blow away dust and soot every cycle. With these features, the crane reduces pot damage, extends refractory life, and cuts downtime for manual inspection. Its adaptive logic can learn typical pot cooling curves, adjusting handling speed to optimise thermal management.
